It's Pie Contest Time!
*Flavors of Fall in Michigan Pie Contest*

Choose your favorite pie using any flavor of fall like apples, pears, pumpkin, sweet potatoes, or any Michigan grown fruit, (tomatoes are a fruit) then choose your favorite way to make it...traditional pie, rustic, tart, slab pie, galette, or hand pie. 
Categories include professional, adult and youth, and market vendors. Judging will consider flavor, appearance and creativity. Prizes in each category include gift certificates to use at the Battle Creek and Bellevue Farmers Markets. One Grand Prize award will be selected from all categories to receive the Golden Pie Plate and $100. Get busy planning your entry...bragging rights are up for grabs!
Entries are accepted on September 22nd from 9am to 10:45. Judging will begin promptly at 11:00 with winners announced at noon.

Nick Lawson (Meet Nick Lawson)

Nick's face is familiar to many of you since he has regularly been at the Beetree Farms stall helping to sell honey gathered and vegetables grown on his family farm right here in Battle Creek. He frequently steps in to assume Market Manager responsibilities.

Pat Roush (Market Master)

2018 will be Pat's fifth season as Market Master for the Battle Creek and Bellevue Farmers Markets. Prior to retiring from the City of Kalamazoo, Pat served as Market Master for the Kalamazoo Bank Street Farmers Market. In addition to her fondness for farmers markets Pat enjoys her grandchildren and taking care of her horses.

Brigette Leach (Secretary Treasurer)

Brigette Leach has served the Battle Creek Farmers Market Association as Secretary Treasurer in a volunteer capacity since 2004. Brigette is also a farmer vendor at both the Battle Creek and Bellevue Farmers Markets. In her spare time Brigette makes jewelry and cheers on the Michigan State Spartans!

Jan Lawson (Assistant Market Master)

Jan Lawson served as Market Master for many years. Still serving in a volunteer capacity, he now serves as assistant Market Master. Jan is also a farmer vendor at the Battle Creek with honey from his beehives and fresh vegetables. He's been a beekeeper for many years and enjoys teaching others about it. Jan recently retired from teaching elementary school.
