With the Governors Stay at Home order rescinded we can take a few steps moving toward a more typical farmers market. For starters, all of our vendors can attend the market and bring all of their products. Huge step in a positive direction. The picnic tables are once again in the Center Circle and you can now stay at the market to enjoy the delicious prepared foods our vendors offer. The tables are spaced out and will be cleaned after use. Hand washing stations and sanitation protocols continue for your safety. We will continue offering central currency exchange and card processing a the Market Master table. Customers exchange currency for clean market money, have cards processed in exchange for clean market money and Double Up Food Bucks tokens. Customers then deposit market money and tokens into the vendor payment buckets. If customers have the exact amount for their purchases currency can be used, however vendors will not be making change. This effort is to accomplish two purposes. First, to reduce exposures for our vendors via currency, coin, and potentially exposed cards. Secondly, it prevents vendors from having to wash their hands after each transaction (which slows down customer service) or have a second person in the stall dedicated to handling payments (which is very difficult for most of our vendors to do since they are small operations). Live music, activities, sampling and demonstrations are still not permitted. Which is so disappointing because we had a calendar full of Food Navigators, cooking demonstrations, kids activities and events scheduled.

Still we are very appreciative of all the customer support and are hopeful that additional restrictions can be safely lifted. Thanks again, everyone, for the support and cooperation!

It's official! The Battle Creek Farmers Market at Festival Market Square will open on Wednesday, May 6th.

COVID-19 protocols recommended by the CDC will be followed, including social distancing, hand-washing stations, and sanitizing. Until Michigan's Executive Order is lifted we will be selling food, personal hygiene and cleaning products. No plant sales are permitted at this time. Prepared food consumption onsite is prohibited but our vendors will offer their entire menu for take-away.  Due to the restrictions there will be no live music, demonstrations, sampling or children's activities. We ask that children be left safely at home and that families limit visits to one family member. Pets are strongly discouraged.

Wednesday Market hours will be 9am to 2pm.

Friday Market hours will be 3 to 7pm.

Free 1 hour parking for farmers market customers is available in the Hamblin Avenue Ramp.

Food Truck Friday events are tentatively being planned for May 15, June 19, July 17, August 14.

We want to thank the Battle Creek Area Farm Bureau Insurance Agents who have stepped up to support the Battle Creek Farmers Market Association Saturday Market Music. Thanks to them we can continue to have live music at the market on Saturdays.

It's early Friday morning, May 11th, and the day for the first Food Truck Friday of the season. Mother Nature is offering up cool temps and a weekend weather forecast of cool and rainy. Not to worry! Both the farmers market and Food Truck Friday goes on, rain or shine. So put on your jackets, grab an umbrella and get on down to Festival Market Square where food vendors will be offering up all types of food choices, from Asian fusion, to Mexican, to Indian influence, to BBQ, to burgers and gyros, there are plenty of main course options. Then comes dessert. How about cheesecake or a special piece of candy? Cookies for the kids. Some Kettle Corn? There will be coffee drinks, too. Speaking of things to drink, Kellogg Arena is offering adult beverages for sale.

Bring your lawn chair so when the skies clear you can stay awhile to enjoy the musical performance of Feeding Grizzlies. Oh, and be sure to get in on #CerealCityRocks. Paint a rock, hide a rock, find a rock, post the rock, spread kindness. Toni Gore will be on hand to walk you through it. Miss Sally will be on hand for face painting. Stop by to see her and choose what you want to have her paint on your face.

Despite a weather forecast with a chance of rain, Opening Day weather was pleasant and dry. We want to thank all of the loyal customers who visited the market to welcome back returning vendors and make new vendors feel welcome.

Kristina Moore, Verdant Grace, took some great photos of the day and has posted them to our Facebook page @BattleCreekFarmersMarketAssociation.

You could say we lucked out, I guess. I mean we did miss out on the worst of the weekend storm. Seeing pictures from the Dakotas where they had blizzard conditions and from around the rest of Michigan, it's hard not to think that.

As I sit here watching the chunks of ice fall off the tree outside my office it's a little hard to believe that opening day for the downtown Farmers Market is just 17 days away. But it is! The good news is that several new vendors are joining both the Battle Creek and Bellevue markets. New to the Bellevue market are 2 Guys and a Grill, and Baba Turk Doner who will be at both Battle Creek and Bellevue. They will be offering ready to eat food so plan on making your way to the market soon to enjoy it! New to Battle Creek is Richard Moncrief, Specialty Cheesecake and Dessert. Also new is Shyam Shepard and Amanda Castro with Pachamama Street Food. Cliff Rensberger, Sweets and Meats, and Jackson Bredehoft with Cafe Rica USA bring totally new products to Battle Creek. Milk and Quakers, operated by Kristy Skinkle will be bringing her line of personal care items. Peecoon Allen, Umami Ramen, is back along with her friend Herman Jagush who is doing business as Koharu Japanese Cuisine. We're going to be the best place in town for lunch!! Looking for fresh cut flowers? Deb Gigkowski is planning to attend on Saturdays to help you out.

We hope you'll come by the market soon to make these new vendors feel welcome. It's going to be a great market season. See you soon.
