We want to thank the Battle Creek Area Farm Bureau Insurance Agents who have stepped up to support the Battle Creek Farmers Market Association Saturday Market Music. Thanks to them we can continue to have live music at the market on Saturdays.

It's early Friday morning, May 11th, and the day for the first Food Truck Friday of the season. Mother Nature is offering up cool temps and a weekend weather forecast of cool and rainy. Not to worry! Both the farmers market and Food Truck Friday goes on, rain or shine. So put on your jackets, grab an umbrella and get on down to Festival Market Square where food vendors will be offering up all types of food choices, from Asian fusion, to Mexican, to Indian influence, to BBQ, to burgers and gyros, there are plenty of main course options. Then comes dessert. How about cheesecake or a special piece of candy? Cookies for the kids. Some Kettle Corn? There will be coffee drinks, too. Speaking of things to drink, Kellogg Arena is offering adult beverages for sale.

Bring your lawn chair so when the skies clear you can stay awhile to enjoy the musical performance of Feeding Grizzlies. Oh, and be sure to get in on #CerealCityRocks. Paint a rock, hide a rock, find a rock, post the rock, spread kindness. Toni Gore will be on hand to walk you through it. Miss Sally will be on hand for face painting. Stop by to see her and choose what you want to have her paint on your face.

Despite a weather forecast with a chance of rain, Opening Day weather was pleasant and dry. We want to thank all of the loyal customers who visited the market to welcome back returning vendors and make new vendors feel welcome.

Kristina Moore, Verdant Grace, took some great photos of the day and has posted them to our Facebook page @BattleCreekFarmersMarketAssociation.

You could say we lucked out, I guess. I mean we did miss out on the worst of the weekend storm. Seeing pictures from the Dakotas where they had blizzard conditions and from around the rest of Michigan, it's hard not to think that.

As I sit here watching the chunks of ice fall off the tree outside my office it's a little hard to believe that opening day for the downtown Farmers Market is just 17 days away. But it is! The good news is that several new vendors are joining both the Battle Creek and Bellevue markets. New to the Bellevue market are 2 Guys and a Grill, and Baba Turk Doner who will be at both Battle Creek and Bellevue. They will be offering ready to eat food so plan on making your way to the market soon to enjoy it! New to Battle Creek is Richard Moncrief, Specialty Cheesecake and Dessert. Also new is Shyam Shepard and Amanda Castro with Pachamama Street Food. Cliff Rensberger, Sweets and Meats, and Jackson Bredehoft with Cafe Rica USA bring totally new products to Battle Creek. Milk and Quakers, operated by Kristy Skinkle will be bringing her line of personal care items. Peecoon Allen, Umami Ramen, is back along with her friend Herman Jagush who is doing business as Koharu Japanese Cuisine. We're going to be the best place in town for lunch!! Looking for fresh cut flowers? Deb Gigkowski is planning to attend on Saturdays to help you out.

We hope you'll come by the market soon to make these new vendors feel welcome. It's going to be a great market season. See you soon.

The 2018 Farmers Market Season is just weeks away! Which means it's time to submit vendor applications. New vendors and returning vendors should complete the application found under the "For Vendors" tab. Need more information? A fee structure and rules for the market can also be found under the same tab.

May 3rd, 2017. That's opening day for the downtown Battle Creek Farmers Market at Festival Market Square.

June 1, 2017 is opening day for the Bellevue Farmers Market in Washington Park.

Vendors will be returning with lots of good things to eat, whether you want to cook it yourself or let someone else cook it for you.

New this year will be an increased number of crafters with handmade items, either made with a Michigan grown agricultural crop or related to food, food preparation, gardening. So if you are a crafts person making pottery, fiber art, garden art, bird houses, aprons, market bags or kitchen themed items now is the time to find out more about our markets. All crafts will be considered but preferences are given to these types of items. See the "for vendors" tab for more information.

Also new this year is Food Truck Friday in Battle Creek. The Farmers Market Association is joining with Kellogg Arena to host the 4 events, each of which coincides with another event going on in downtown Battle Creek. From 5 to 9 on May 19th, June 9, July 14 and August 11 you and your friends will be able to enjoy food vendors, market vendors, crafts, music and beer. Make it your place to be on Fridays to start your weekend off right!

Although it's hard to think about the Farmers Market today with very cold temperatures and lots of snow being moved around by stiff winds, vendors have made their decisions for Opening Day in Bellevue and downtown Battle Creek.

Festival Market Square opens on Wednesday, May 4th. Hours will remain 9 am to 1 pm.

Bellevue Farmers Market will open on June 2nd. Hours will remain 3 to 6 pm.
